About this hire

Excavator hire with WNR Plant Hire

When a job needs real digging power, the excavator is the machine that sets the pace for everything else on site. Trucks wait for it, pipe crews wait for it and the programme depends on it. That is why we hire out excavators the way contractors actually need them: a serviced machine, a skilled operator in the seat and transport to site arranged by the same company.

Excavator hire with us means you get the machine and the person who runs it for the period you need, by the day, week or month, anywhere in Gauteng.

Choose the right machine

Which excavator size do you need?

21 t tracked excavator

Our most flexible size. The 21 t suits trenching for water, sewer and electrical services, smaller bulk cuts, foundations and tighter civils sites where you still want proper reach and breakout force. It is easier to move between work areas and a good match for smaller tipper fleets.

24 t tracked excavator

The all-rounder for bulk excavation and loading. The 24 t gives you more bucket and more stability for loading 10 m³ tippers all day, opening up platforms, digging dams and stormwater channels and shaping embankments.

30 t tracked excavator

For heavy digging in hard material, rock and overburden, and for keeping a long tipper cycle moving on bigger jobs. Ask us about availability when you book.

Typical jobs

Excavator hire for mining, civils and quarries

Mining

Stripping overburden, loading haul trucks, cleaning sumps and drains, and building berms, ramps and haul roads. Our operators are used to working around heavy trucks and to mine site rules.

Civils and construction

Trenching for pipes and cables, bulk excavation for foundations and basements, dams and stormwater channels, and shaping embankments and platforms. A 21 t on trenching paired with a TLB for backfill is a common combination.

Quarries

Loading blasted material, feeding crushers, stockpile work and clearing benches. Pair the excavator with our 10 m³ tippers or a wheel loader so loading and hauling are planned as one job.

Operator supplied

Operator supplied, delivered to site

Every excavator we hire out comes with an experienced operator. Our operators know these machines well and understand how to work safely around trenches, services, trucks and people on mines, civils sites and quarries. You do not need to find or pay someone separately to run the machine.

If your site needs a specific induction, medical, PPE or permit before work starts, send the details with your request so we can have everything ready on day one. We deliver and collect the machine on our own lowbed, so you deal with one company for the machine, the person who runs it and the transport.

Match the excavator to your trucks

As a rule of thumb, a 24 t loads a 10 m³ tipper in a few passes and keeps two or three trucks busy on a short haul. Tell us the haul distance and we will help you balance machines and trucks so nobody stands still.

Think about access and services

Tell us about overhead lines, underground services, slopes and soft ground. Our operators plan around them, but knowing early means the right machine arrives on day one.

Gauteng only

Areas we serve in Gauteng

Our yard and workshop are at 995 Katrol Avenue, Robertville, Roodepoort, on the West Rand. From there we supply excavators with operators to sites across Gauteng, including Johannesburg, Roodepoort, Randburg, Sandton, Soweto, Krugersdorp, Randfontein, the wider West Rand, Germiston, Boksburg, Kempton Park and the Vaal. Questions

Excavator hire FAQs

Which excavator size should I choose?

For trenching and smaller civils work the 21 t is usually enough. For general bulk excavation and loading tippers the 24 t is the most popular. For heavy digging in rock, choose the 30 t. Describe the job and we will recommend a size.

What bucket size comes with the excavator?

Each class comes with a standard digging bucket: about 0.8–1.0 m³ on the 21 t, about 1.0–1.3 m³ on the 24 t and about 1.0–1.4 m³ on the 30 t (other buckets on request). Ask about other bucket sizes on your quote request.

Does the excavator come with an operator?

Yes. Every excavator we hire out is supplied with an experienced operator. You do not need to provide your own.

Can you deliver the excavator to my site?

Yes. We deliver and collect our excavators on our own lowbed, anywhere in Gauteng.

Can I hire tipper trucks with the excavator?

Yes. Many customers hire an excavator together with our 10 m³ tipper trucks with drivers, so loading and hauling are planned together.

Do you hire excavators outside Gauteng?

Not at the moment. We work in Gauteng only, including Johannesburg, Roodepoort and the West Rand.
